CS 1713 Introduction to Computer Science, Using Applets

This describes how to put an applet on a web page.

• Create an applet using eclipse and make sure it runs correctly.
• Assume the package of this applet is applets
• Make a directory under your public_html directory on your Z drive.
• We will assume that this directly is called myapplets\test1.
• Make a subdirectory of this with the name as your package.
• In the example above, it will be called Z:public_html\myapplets\test1\applets.
• Copy all of your .class files into this directory.
• Create a file in this directory with the extension .html, for example, myapplet.html.
• If your applet is called TestApplet, insert the following into your myapplet.html file:

        <applet code = applets.TestApplet WIDTH = 500 HEIGHT = 200>
         </applet>
        

• You should be able to run the applet just by double clicking on this file.
• Now we need to set the permissions so that anyone can access your applet.
• Log into your UNIX account by using the SSH client:
  Start -< Programs -< SSH Secure Shell -< Secure Shell Client
• When the window pops up, hit thge RETURN key.
• A connect window will appear.
  Enter the Host Name: pandora
  Enter the User Name: your username
• Push Connect
• Enter you password when prompted
• type the following commands at the prompt:
  cd public_html
  cp ~cs1713/commonfiles/allowall .
• Now anyone should be able to run your applet from the web using the URL:
  http://www.cs.utsa.edu/~yourusername/myapplets/test1/myapplet.html
