CS 3733 Operating Systems, Fall 2008 Assignment 2 Comments
- This assignment was graded on the basis of 30 points.
- Part 1: 10 points
- Part 2: 10 points (5 for CST calculation, 5 for simulator log and table)
- Part 3: 10 points (5 for simulator log and table, 5 for statement answer)
- Almost everyone filled in the tables correctly.
- The statement from part 3 is not correct.
- As stated, it is not correct beacuse sometimes PSJF does the
same number of context switches as SJF, in which case they give exactly
the same results.
- More importantly, in cases in which the load average for PSJF
is a lot smaller than
for SJF, each context switch will affect SJF much more.
- For a statement like this one to be true, it must be true in all cases.
- It is not possible to prove such a statement is true with any
number of experiments.
- It only takes one experiment to prove it false.
- Most of the class said that they thought the statement was true,
either because it made sense or beacuse of the experiment.
