Directions for Setting Up Your Homepage

The Division of Computer Science maintains a UTSA CS STUDENT DIRECTORY as a service to its students. If you are a UTSA CS student and you have an account on the CS Sun System, you can create your own personal homepage and list it in the directory by following these directions:

In your home directory on the Sun system create a subdirectory called public_html.
Set the permissions of this subdirectory so that it is indeed public by executing:
```
          chmod 0755 public_html
```
Create a index.html file in your public_html subdirectory to hold your homepage. You can download the following sample homepage as a starting point if you don't know HTML. (Most people incorporate ideas from other web pages by viewing the source of pages they like.)
A web page without pictures is like a day without sunshine...DRAB ...DRAB...DRAB...

The MS Student Computer Lab has scanners. Ask someone in the lab to help you scan in your favorite picture and convert it to GIF format. You will need to bring a 3" floppy to save the file and then you can upload it to your Sun account through the file manager. Be mindful of your 10 MB disk space limit and go for small pictures and low resolution.
Be mindful that any link HTML or GIF must be world readable to be accessible from netscape. You can execute:
```
          chmod 0744 *
```
in the public_html subdirectory to make sure that is the case.
When you are ready, fill in and submit your entry using the form at the bottom of UTSA CS STUDENT DIRECTORY If you followed the directions given here, your URL will be:
```
     http://www.cs.utsa.edu/~yourlogin/
```
